Bicton Hill Walking Track – Clump Mountain National Park
The Bicton Hill Circuit starts from the parking area at the Southern end of Bingil Bay, just across from the beach. The path is well maintained and has numerous switchbacks and some stone steps. Along the way you will see posts with the name of plants or trees, some of which are easy to spot but others unfortunately are hard to distinguish from the surrounding vegetation. Be sure to watch out for the native wildlife such as echidnas, carpet pythons, golden orb spiders, goannas, skinks and pademelons. Birdlife is also abundant including the iconic southern cassowary, the orange footed scrub fowl, kookaburras, emerald doves and imperial pigeons.
The first viewpoint is approximately 400m from the start and gives magnificent views over Bingil Bay, North to Garner’s Beach and beyond. Shortly after this viewpoint the trail splits and you can choose to head left which is 100m shorter but a little steeper or to go right. Both paths join again just before the summit.
The view from the top is stunning, looking out over the marina at Clump Point and onwards to Dunk Island, the Family Group and Hinchinbrook Island in the distance.
This hike will take you between 1 – 2 hours return depending on fitness levels and photo stops.
Suitable for the whole family.
Please remember to take water and avoid walking in the middle of the day during the summer months.
Please stay on the track, don’t feed the wildlife and take your rubbish with you.
